All American Rejects The Wind Blows Music Video Review

The Wind Blows Music Video
All American Rejects' previous videos have depicted them as kids playing in a punk rock band. This newest video feels very different from their most recent hit. "Gives You Hell" was not serious and did little to show the maturity of the band. The newest video, "The Wind Blows", decides to break them out of this mold a bit more by showing off the new, adult All American Rejects, but does this new look stick?

Right from the beginning, the music video shows off some excellent camera work and some stunning effects that are really cohesive with the video's overall theme. The effects, however, sometimes get in the way due to overuse. Some of the visuals are right out of a photographer's portfolio making it a beautiful video to watch. The set is a bit trite, as it is set on a beach. Still, the photography and directing do a lot to make it their own. Transitioning scenes could not have been done more smoothly, fitting very well with the music.

That isn't to say that there isn't any bad things about the video. Actually, a lot of things are holding this video back. Many of the band shots aren't implemented that well and a large amount of the close up shots of the lead singer, Tyson, seem unnecessary. The scenes between Tyson and his significant other are great, but are never fully fleshed out as much as they could be. They don't pull on our heart strings as much as they could, and a video like this should set out to do just that. You just get to see a few parts of the video where they are laying next to each other and then she is in a city and leaving. There isn't a good transition or epilogue of why this is happening. It could have been more interesting but they didn't add enough detail.

So, getting back to the question at hand. The new All American Rejects video is a good direction to head. The visual concepts are overbearingly more powerful than the story ones, which hurt the video. With a more fleshed out story this could easily be the All American Rejects' best video yet made. It makes a person very excited to see where their next music video and song are going.
