The debut music video off Green Day's newest album was a little lackluster, but does the the video for "21 Guns" make up for it? "21 Guns" is a serious song, complete with acoustic guitars, softer chorus and a slower tempo. To match the serious tone the video offers a more dramatic feel that is great to watch. The lighting of the video is very saturated and has a very professional look. While the set is littered with trashy furniture and decorations, it's almost poetic to see it all get destroyed by incoming stray bullets. Additionally helping the case of the video is Lisa Stelly who does a phenomenal job reacting to the barrage of bullets. Lisa Stelly isn't that well known of an actress but she does a good job in this video, you should watch for her beautiful face in more things in the future.
After the first assault of bullets the two young adults accept their fate and meet in the middle of the room. The scenes don't make for any teary moments but it does have a nice sentiment. The final kissing scene between the guy and girl is surrounded by a grand finale of feathers, lights, and explosions that add to intimacy. Problem is that none of the interactions are spelled out enough to make for a more emotional experience. It's just two kids in a room getting shot at, not much else is stated. The director Marc Webb does another accomplished job. Overall this is a great video that is a welcome sequel to "Wake Me Up When September Ends."
