Katy Perry Waking Up in Vegas Music Video Review

Katy Perry has released many music videos in the last year, each of which is gradually getting better. Does this latest video keep the same track record and have a similar progression? Well, it isn't a step forward or backward. Katy's newest video is not her best, but definitely a worthy addition to her library. "Waking Up in Vegas" reflects Katy's lyrics and concept to a perfect T. The opening camera work shows a lot of hidden depth in the directing of an otherwise shallow video. Katy Perry's facial expressions light up the set and keeps the focus on their downtrodden times. This flare of depth slowly fades out after a minute into the video. The rest of the time is filled in with a few Vegas celebrities and several humorous situations starring Katy Perry and her boyfriend (Joel Moore).

On the whole it is a pretty entertaining watch, but it definitely has some room for improvement. A lot of the scenes are just poor excuses to wear different costumes in a badly executed montage of gambling and purging. The aforementioned depth could have resonated well with the rest of the video. The ending could be looked at as either a cop out or a good idea. The cadence of the video was the same exact scene as the introduction. This method can be viewed as an easy resolution to their problems without figuring out a substantial ending for themselves. Almost as if the whole music video could have been a split second fantasy while playing the slot machine. "Waking Up in Vegas" was a good visual show piece to a song about hijinx in the "City that never Sleeps."
