Linkin Park New Divide Music Video Review

linkin park new divide
It is always hard to review movie based music videos. Usually, these types of videos lack substance and only anchor on bits and pieces of the movie. Linkin Park's "New Divide" doesn't try anything ground breaking in their music video adaptation of Transformers 2 and it suffers for that reason. First off, I want to mention that this Linkin Park song is great. Besides a lack of variety, it has an awesome soaring chorus and an excellent breakdown/interlude. The song definitely does the movie justice and on these merits alone make for a video that is watchable. Alas, we do not judge the music videos on the song quality, but moreover the cohesiveness of the song and video together.

Getting back on track, there are a few major downfalls that prevent this from rising to Transformers glory. The Transformer 2 clips are not well picked for the music video. Very few times was I awestruck by what was happening in the movie clips. The director, Joseph Hahn, who is also the sampler/dj for the band, attempted to blur the lines between the movie and the music video. This attempt made for some very amateur effects that resemble a visualizer from the Microsoft Media Player. The video isn't all bad and has its moments. The band's presence in the video was fairly emotional and added to drama. What also was very welcome was a few of the battle scenes between the bots that were very fitting unlike the previously mentioned scenes. Mr. Hahn has directed some great videos for Linkin Park, but this wasn't one of them.
