Before I begin writing this review, I just want to let you know that I am an avid fan of both Paramore and the Twilight Saga. So, when I heard that Paramore would be covering a song for Twilight, I was ecstatic. One thing I have to say for the Decode video is that I really felt like they captured the feel of the forest that surrounds Forks, Washington. I really enjoyed their setting. The green of the trees made all of the other colors pop, especially Hayley’s brightly colored hair.
The clips that were mixed in with the shots of the band I had mixed feelings on. Some of the clips were great. I really liked it when it showed Edward and Bella lying in the field and when Edward saves Bella from the van. It also gets pretty intense when it shows the fight between James and Edward with the mirror smashing. However, for every great scene there was a bad one. When it shows the three vampires gliding into the forest it just came across as cheesy. Also, when it shows James sniffing the air I felt like I could have lived without seeing that in the video. But, the clincher for worst scene in the video would have to be the ending one. The end of a video with this much action should make an impression. I found myself puzzled that they would choose the ending clip to be of somebody taking down a deer…it kind of left a bad taste in my mouth when all was said and done.
The band’s performance, however, was great and the shots of Hayley alone were really good. I liked the wardrobe choices for this video. They were bundled up just enough and I liked that it reflected what the characters would be wearing. It has great lighting and the shots of the band were amazing, with the movie clips peppered in at just the right time. It also stayed true to Twilight. I would say the biggest downfall was the bizarre clips that didn’t belong as well as the feeling of confusion at the end of the video.
