Finally the debut song from Paramore's upcoming album gets a music video, but was the wait worth it? "Ignorance" is a great debut song that boast vocal melodies that steal the spotlight. The "Ignorance" music video, on the other hand, doesn't do much besides get the single out to the public. The set is claustrophobic and somewhat fits the feel of the song but it can't shake the look of poor budgeting. Camera changes happen excessively to fill space at an exponential rate until the end of the video. Paramore is fitted with suitable attire that go well with the dark setting. A surprising change was to see lead singer Hayley wearing a rather Gothic looking costume that hardly matches her usually clothing look. This wardrobe change doesn't fit the style very well and seems shoehorned in.
"Ignorance" pretty much boils down to this: Hayley waves around a light bulb while an irritating strobe effect flashes. The saving grace of the video is Hayley's presence. She moves in an elegance that can only compliment rock music. Her facial expressions are penetrating and are reminiscent to the likes of Joan Jett, Cyndi Lauper, and Pat Benetar. My final thought is that this Paramore video could of benefited by more Hayley Williams dancing. "Ignorance" is a decent video but could be made better by a higher budget and more thought provoking concepts.
